The "Stick Fishermen" of Sri Lanka

When we booked our flight to start our trip. We knew very little about Sri Lanka and in our rush to get everything sorted, we didn't have time to research it!
But we were aware and had seen pix of "The Stick Fishermen". They are central to the peoples' admiration and pride. They feature in lots of art and have been well documented.
So we had another 04:45 start to catch them catching fish!

This man was already on his stick when we arrived. This is subsistence living and really is a hand to mouth existence. Can you imagine sitting on a spindly little pole for hour after hour, everyday. Being splashed by waves, permanently wet and covered in salt and sand.

So for all it's hardship, it's still a wonderful office!

The light is changing every minute.

So it's fish and coconuts for breakfast
