It's not all sun and sangria over here!

Whilst we've been flashing you the good stuff. We had several heavy downpours on the coast and last Wednesday afternoon, we had a tropical rainstorm with plenty of thunder, lightning and proper rain. In the space of five minutes we had a river running down the hill to the side of our digs.

But it was all over in half an hour and we could see the sea and blue skies again.

An hour and half after that and just before sunset, this was our last view of Mirissa beach.

Since then we went to the hills and stayed a couple of nights in the beautiful village of Ella. (pictures to follow)

Before moving onto a place I read about many years ago and liked the sound of it........! Kandy has a lake, a huge temple and a giant buddha on a hill. I'ts also clogged with traffic and the polution is shocking and chest heaving after a couple of minutes in a tuktuk. On reflection we should have given it a swerve!

However we were fortunate enough to find a nice hotel with a huge room and good wifi. So we were able to catch up on things. Donna is now upto date with the journal and work is now kushty. But apart from a couple of brief respites, it hasn't stopped raining for three days.

So this morning we're out of here,  heading west on the 10:30 express!!! train to Negombo and the coast. It's a resort town near the airport but the whole island is getting a thorough soaking at the mo, so were not expecting much. Catch you later xx
